Handsome John Juzek 3/4 Size Vintage Violin With Wooden Bow and Hard Case. Violin is marked with a serial # on one side and has information on the back of neck. It also has number markings on the base. Based on our research, we believe that this violin was made pre-WWII, possibly pre-1930. Please review the information below that we found from online sources to make your own determination about its origins. Label inside body says: Made in Prague, Czech. Has 4 wooden pegs and beautiful curled top. Fret board has round paper sticker labels – likely put there for student learning. They can be removed prior to cleaning and polishing. We did not clean this instrument for fear of damaging the finish. It is in original, untouched condition. Case exterior is marked NYC Bd. Also has #62 written on it and a foil label inside that says Lifton, USA. VIOLIN is about 22″ long by 7-1/2″ wide at lower body, 6-1/8 wide at upper body. CASE is 28-1/4″ long by 9-1/4″ wide at lower body, 4-1/4 wide at top. Case is about 4-1/2 deep. Handle is 5-1/4 wide. WOOD BOW is about 25-3/4 long. Violin condition: In good vintage/antique condition. Shows wear from age and use. The good thing is that there are no visible cracks or splits in the wood. We checked it over several times. All of the major parts are there. Neck looks straight and the one piece back looks even. The issues as shown in the photos: It needs some TLC/work. Strings need to be replaced. Wood has significant scuffs so refinishing is likely required. Bridge area needs to be checked for tightening or it may need to be replaced. The included wood bow needs re-stringing and cleaning. Case condition: Frame is good in regards to having no dents or push ins and the lid aligns with the base. Lock does not work but 2 hinged closures work to keep case closed. They have rust and are scuffed. The outer faux alligator print covering and inside green plush fur lining are in poor to fair condition from age, wear, and use. In the early 1900’s, John Juzek ran a factory in Schonbach, Czechoslovakia (renamed Luby after World War II), where John Juzek labeled instruments were crafted. The John Juzek imprint on the label inside the F-holes reflect an import-to-U. S trade name, not the craftsman. The city and country imprint reflects the location of Juzek’s shops, which were mostly in Prague before World War II. It was originally called Czechoslovak Musical Instruments Co. 1920 to 1941 -Prague & Schonbach, Chz. This violin is marked “Prague” inside.
